The Mwamba Family Foundations core belief is in the vital necessity for education starting with the children in the Democratic Republic of Congo, from which the Mwamba Family originates. Education is the open door to a life full of knowledge and therefore opportunities that lead to a better way of life for one’s family as well as an entire nation. Education is the transmission of civilization, without which neither freedom nor justice can be maintained.
The Mwamba’s have witnessed first hand the devastation and utter turmoil that ravages the country they hold dear. They have seen children without a home, misplaced by a civil war that has destroyed a beautiful and resourcefully rich country for decades. Children as young as 8 and 9 years old recruited by militia, who exude brutalization as these children are forced to commit abuses, including murder and rape against civilians, some being made to kill their own family members.
The goal and objective of this family foundation is to educate. Forty one percent of people in the Congo do not know how to read or write. When asked how much educated men were superior to those uneducated, Aristotle answered, “As much as the living are to the dead.” The Mwamba’s believe that the educated are truly free.
The focus of the Mwamba Family Foundation is the education of children. The foundation intends to distribute school supplies to needy children throughout the Congo. There are several orphanages throughout the country that need to be supplied with the appropriate provisions for and environment of learning.
The foundation intends to provide these orphanages with furnished school houses, including school books, desks, school supplies and computers. The foundation also understands the need for good teachers and will work closely with educators, and will ensure that they are provided with the adequate tools necessary to perform their instruction.Another way to provide these children with tools necessary to provide a better way of life is to provide them with an athletic program. With athletics comes discipline of the body as well as focus and empowerment. Setting up simple athletic fields for soccer and American flag football is one way to encourage the children to participate in activitiesthat bring discipline to both mind and body. The foundation intends to supply these orphanages with soccer and flag football equipment including shoes, uniforms, and coaches who will provide the children with empowerment and discipline.
The Mwamba Family Foundation’s motivation to work in philanthropy is to make others lives better, to give back, to take action, and to motivate others to do the same. The hope for the future of the foundation in 10, 20, or 50 years from now is that there will remain physical and spiritual evidence of its existence, and that it will manifest itself through more educated children, fully functioning school houses, athletic programs and health clinics, as well as hope and joy to all whose lives are touched by the Mwamba Family Foundation.
